The Phosphenes // Heather Fiona
Live Music
$12 pre-sale, $15 door
The Phosphenes return to The West with their debut show at Mamma Chen’s. Premiering a bunch of songs slated for their forthcoming album plus a few old favourites, and supported by the spellbinding Heather Fiona, this will be a night to remember.
The Phosphenes create imperfect three-minute pop songs from a standard dysfunctional rock line-up (with added harmonica for your convenience) that – replete with catchy hooks and upbeat rhythms, armed with poignant and quirky humour, and dripping in vocal harmonies – stick in your head and rewire your brain. With three prolific songwriters from diverse musical backgrounds, their eclectic yet cohesive repertoire evokes familiar flavours of 60s pop, 70s rock, and 90s whatever, while embodying a strident originality.
Heather Fiona has spent more than a decade crafting her own inimitable style of soulful retro-pop, initially with The Sweet Somethings where Heather would begin to develop her alt-country inspired songwriting prowess, through to her ongoing ‘glam-folk’ trio Heartwood. Her latest work continues to develop her signature sound, showcasing her ability to deliver cross-genre songwriting ranging from pop-rock, through the sultry, salty ballads to classic folk/country numbers.
Mamma Chen’s acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and the Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation, the true owners of the land that we live and operate on. We would like to pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
