Francis Glass Band play Mamma Chen’s band room with Ellen James and Dom Rogers.
FRANCIS GLASS BAND first took to the stage amidst the ash and rubble of so-called Australia’s Black Summer. Against the unfolding cruelty of a world gone wrong they have drawn the tears, moved the feet and raised the fists of broken-hearted audiences wherever they can. Drawing on diverse influences – from Patti Smith and the Gun Club to Tropicalia protest songs and EVH – they have a proven ability to move from the raucous to the heartwrenching in a matter of seconds.
ELLEN JAMES is a self taught song conjurer, who creates music with vulnerable lyricism and building melodies that cuts in, opens up and leaves you reeling with love and grief and longing and whisky. Hailing from the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, James’ voice is at home both ringing from mountain tops, lilting around fires and speaking softly to river water.
DOM ROGERS has been inspired by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, The Triffids, The Go-Betweens, The Waterboys, Jason Isbell, Weddings Parties Anything, and Paul Kelly. His lyrical wanderlust meanders through themes of love, loss, landscape, power, and memory.
SUNDAY MAY 1ST // 3PM // FREE ENTRY
We play in the knowledge that SOVEREIGNTY HAS NEVER BEEN CEDED and we do so on STOLEN LANDS.
Mamma Chen’s is ” a fellow friend… embracing diversity and multiplicity…. with a focussed vision of access for all – providing warmth and physically safe spaces to share, engage and perform. ” — in other words a beautiful and well-grounded venue and bar in the heart of Footscray.
