Part of Sonic Poetry Festival 2024: Poetry that sounds like all of us
Assorted Sporks – Festival Edition has the exciting addition of feature performer Lane Milburn,a fantastic Melbourne poet we’re super excited about.
Lane Milburn is a visual artist, writer and spoken-word performer, committed to creative expansion through curious and honest expression. Crowned champion in the 2023 Slamalamadingdong Grand Slam, 2nd in the Melbourne heat of UNESCO International Poetry Slam, and a finalist in the Australian Youth Poetry Slam, he’s a go getter, but with sights set on evolution, connection, questions and answers next.
Assorted Sporks is a regular monthly open mic poetry, creative writing and performance night at Mamma Chen’s in Footscray, (usually on the last Thursday of the month) the Festival Edition has a date change and will be on Wednesday August 28th.
The theme for this Assorted Sporks is Reinvention and anyone who wants to perform is encouraged to bring something that relates to the theme. At the end of the night we play music related to the theme and encourage everyone to get up and improvise two lines or less on the theme to the music, we will post the recording of this on the event page later in the week.
Fun themes, great open mic, exciting feature poet and a chance to do a bit of improvised creativity!
Completely free.
Hosted by Loran Steinberg (they/them) Music by George O’Hara (he/they).
To keep this event a safe space for everyone, there will be no hate speech or your mic will be turned off and you may be asked to leave the stage.
Mamma Chen’s is a wheelchair accessible venue however, the stage is not; we are happy to pass you a mic if needed.
Mamma Chen’s acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and the Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation, the true owners of the land that we live and operate on. We would like to pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
