“Roy Orbison appeared to me in a dream. No bullshit. And you know what? When the Big O speaks, you listen. He told me to make an album. I told Roy that I was scared. He told me to believe in myself. So I did. TURN DOWN SERVICE was born from a dream. Thanks Roy.
I wrote some songs and put together a band. Don’t get me wrong. This took time.
We found a space to record in. My mate has a bluestone barn on a working sheep farm out the back of Geelong. It was perfect. The band camped in the paddocks for a week and we made an album. No distractions. Friends and musos came and went. If they were there at the right time, they got on.
So is it the music any good? Well, you know what? I think Roy would give us the thumbs up. I really do. The album’s not quite finished. We’ve been in overdub-land for a while. But I’m actually really proud of everyone who played on the record and they way it sounds. The musos are top shelf. If I listed all my influences, would that help you get an idea without hearing the music? Ok, then… Neil Young, Thom Yorke, AIR, Bach, The Beatles, The Stones, Dylan, CSNY, Joni, etc, Burt Bacharach, Gillian Welsch, Van Morrison, Jeff Buckley, Beethoven, blah, blah”.
If you want impress your unborn grandkids, come to the gig. You can tell them you were at TURN DOWN SERVICE’S first show.
